Candle Use Tips
Our candles, like all candles, should be cared for properly so you get the most scent-life out of your candle. The following are some tips to make your candle burning experience safe and more enjoyable.
The first time you light your candle is the most important part of extending the life of your candle and preventing future problems, such as tunneling. Soy wax has what’s called a wax memory and tunneling is what happens when you light your candle for the first time and don’t burn it long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of the container. When you light your candle, be sure to allow it to burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt, or until the melted wax reaches the edges of the container. This could take up to 90 minutes. If the candle is not allowed to melt to the edge after lighting, especially during the initial burn, a tunnel can form in the middle of your candle. This is known as a memory ring. The wax memory will continue to burn only to a certain point if not burned properly. If this is allowed to happen, your candle won’t last very long and you won’t get a lot of scent from it.
After a good consistent melt pool has been established, you won't have to burn your candle to the edges every time you light it, but it’s still recommended
Always keep cotton wicks trimmed to no shorter and no longer than 1/4”. Keep debris, such as charred bits of wick, out of the wax, but wait until wax cools to clean it. If your candle has a wood wick, keep it trimmed to no shorter than 1/8” and no longer than 1/4”.
Always burn your candle on a heat-resistant surface. Keep away from wind or drafts, and never leave it unattended, especially around children and pets. Keep candle in a place where children and pets can’t reach. Don't burn your candle longer than 4 hours at a time. Discontinue use of candle when wax reaches 1/4” to 1/2” from bottom.
